Lori Brown (architect)

Lori Brown is an American architect, spatial activist, and academic known for her work examining the intersection of architecture, gender, and social justice. She is a Professor of Architecture at Syracuse University's School of Architecture, where her research and teaching focus on issues of gender equity in architectural practice and design, as well as border politics and architectural interventions in contested spaces.

Brown's scholarship critically investigates the built environment and its impact on marginalized communities. She is particularly interested in the ways that architectural design can reinforce or challenge existing power structures and social inequalities. Her work often addresses issues related to immigration, detention, and the creation of more equitable and inclusive spaces.

Brown's published work includes books such as Contested Spaces: Abortion Clinics, Women's Shelters and Hospitals: Politicizing the Production of Architecture and Feminist Practices: Interdisciplinary Approaches to Women in Architecture. She has also contributed to numerous journals and edited volumes. Her research has been supported by grants from organizations such as the Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts.

In addition to her academic work, Brown has been involved in design projects and advocacy efforts that promote social justice. Her work aims to raise awareness about the social and political implications of architecture and to empower communities to shape their built environment in ways that better reflect their needs and values.
