Lon Nil

Lon Nil was a Cambodian politician and younger brother of General Lon Nol, who played a significant role in the Cambodian coup of 1970 that ousted Prince Norodom Sihanouk. He was known for his virulent anti-communist sentiments and for holding increasingly radical and nationalistic views.

Nil served in various government positions after the coup, often acting as a vocal proponent of the Khmer Republic. He held considerable influence due to his relationship with his brother, although his own political acumen was often questioned. He was notorious for his eccentric behavior and extreme pronouncements.

During the Khmer Republic period, Nil's public image suffered due to allegations of corruption and abuses of power. His pronouncements were often seen as contributing to the instability and chaos of the time.

Lon Nil was killed by the Khmer Rouge in 1975, along with many other leaders of the Khmer Republic, after their victory in the Cambodian Civil War. His liver was reportedly removed and eaten by Khmer Rouge soldiers, a gruesome act indicative of the brutal nature of the regime.
