Liutgard of Saxony (died 953)

Liutgard of Saxony (died 953) was a member of the Ottonian dynasty and a Duchess consort of Lorraine. She was the daughter of Otto I, Holy Roman Emperor, and his first wife, Edith of Wessex.

Liutgard married Conrad the Red, Duke of Lorraine, around 947. This marriage was politically significant, solidifying Otto I's control over the Duchy of Lorraine, which had been a contested territory between France and the Holy Roman Empire. Conrad was a loyal supporter of Otto I and played a crucial role in suppressing rebellions against the king.

Liutgard and Conrad had one son, Otto of Worms (c. 948 – 1004). Otto of Worms later became Duke of Carinthia.

Liutgard died in 953, before her husband Conrad, who died in battle in 955. Her death occurred during a period of significant political instability and conflict in the Holy Roman Empire. While details regarding the specific circumstances of her death are scarce, her life represents the intertwined nature of family, politics, and power within the Ottonian dynasty.
