Memento Mori (Depeche Mode album)
Memento mori is the fifteenth studio album by English electronic music band Depeche Mode, released on March 24, 2023, by Columbia Records and Mute Records. The album's title, Latin for "remember you must die," was chosen by the band before the sudden death of keyboardist Andy Fletcher in May 2022, imbuing it with additional layers of meaning related to mortality and remembrance.
The album was produced by James Ford and Marta Salogni, marking the first Depeche Mode album since 1990's Violator not to feature production from Flood. The album's themes explore life, death, and reflection on the passage of time, resonating with a darker, more introspective mood than some of their previous work.
The release of Memento Mori was preceded by the single "Ghosts Again," which was well-received by critics and fans. The album debuted at number one in several countries, including Germany, Spain, and Switzerland, and reached number two in the UK and the US, demonstrating the band's continued relevance and popularity. The album’s supporting tour, the Memento Mori World Tour, began in March 2023.
