Little Me (novel)

Little Me is a satirical novel by American author Patrick Dennis, published in 1961. Presented as the purported autobiography of glamorous, internationally famous actress Belle Poitrine, the novel chronicles her wildly improbable life story, replete with name-dropping encounters, scandalous affairs, and accidental involvement in historical events.

The narrative is driven by Poitrine's inflated ego, malapropisms, and complete lack of self-awareness, creating a humorous and often absurd depiction of fame, fortune, and the American Dream. The book's narrative style relies heavily on exaggeration, parody, and caricature to lampoon Hollywood culture, societal norms, and the very concept of celebrity memoirs.

The novel is illustrated with numerous photographs, allegedly sourced from Poitrine's personal collection, which feature actress Mary Ellen Barrett as the titular character in various staged situations. These photographs add another layer to the satire, mimicking the visual style and conventions of celebrity autobiographies.

Little Me was adapted into a Broadway musical in 1962, with music by Cy Coleman and lyrics by Carolyn Leigh. The musical maintained the book's humorous tone and featured multiple actors portraying Poitrine's many husbands and lovers.
