Listen (Terry Dexter album)
Listen is the debut studio album by American R&B singer Terry Dexter, released in 2004 on Fred Jerkins III's Darkchild Records through a distribution deal with DreamWorks Records. The album features production from Jerkins III, Rodney Jerkins, and LaShawn Daniels, among others. The album's sound is primarily contemporary R&B, with influences of neo-soul and gospel.
Notable tracks include "Better Than Me," the album's lead single, and "You're Everything," which received moderate radio airplay. While Listen showcased Dexter's vocal abilities and garnered positive reviews for its production quality and song selection, it did not achieve significant commercial success. The album's release was impacted by the subsequent folding of DreamWorks Records into Geffen Records shortly after its debut, which limited promotional opportunities and contributed to its relatively low sales figures. Despite its modest commercial performance, Listen remains a critically appreciated entry in Terry Dexter's discography and a representation of the early 2000s R&B sound.
