List of Singaporean Community Development Councils (2006–2011)
The Community Development Councils (CDCs) in Singapore are local administrative divisions intended to help the government better understand and meet the needs of the local population. During the period of 2006 to 2011, Singapore was divided into five CDCs, each overseen by a mayor who is appointed by the Prime Minister. These councils are responsible for initiating, planning, and implementing community programs and services.
The five CDCs operating during the 2006-2011 period were:
- Central Singapore CDC: Covered areas in the central part of Singapore.
- North East CDC: Covered areas in the north-eastern part of Singapore.
- North West CDC: Covered areas in the north-western part of Singapore.
- South East CDC: Covered areas in the south-eastern part of Singapore.
- South West CDC: Covered areas in the south-western part of Singapore.
The main functions of the CDCs included promoting social cohesion, facilitating community bonding, connecting residents to resources, and implementing national policies at the local level. They also worked with various grassroots organisations, government agencies, and private sector partners to deliver their services. The mayors of the CDCs held a significant position in community affairs, acting as a bridge between the government and the local residents. The administrative boundaries and responsibilities of the CDCs can change periodically, reflecting the evolving needs of the Singaporean population.
