Linda Smith (born July 16, 1950) is an American politician from the state of Washington. She is best known for her service in the United States House of Representatives, representing Washington's 3rd congressional district from 1995 to 1999 as a Republican.
Before entering Congress, Smith served in the Washington State House of Representatives from 1983 to 1987 and the Washington State Senate from 1987 to 1995. During her time in the state legislature, she focused on issues related to property rights, fiscal responsibility, and government accountability.
In 1994, Smith successfully ran for the U.S. House of Representatives. While in Congress, she was a vocal advocate for term limits and campaign finance reform. She often bucked party leadership and was known for her independent streak.
In 1998, Smith declined to seek re-election to the House and instead ran for the U.S. Senate against incumbent Patty Murray. She lost the election.
After leaving Congress, Smith remained involved in public policy and activism. She founded and led Shared Hope International, an organization dedicated to combating sex trafficking. She also continued to advocate for various conservative causes.
