Levin (guitar company)

Levin was a Swedish musical instrument manufacturer, primarily known for producing guitars. Founded in 1900 by Herman Carlson Levin in Gothenburg, Sweden, the company initially produced mandolins and zithers before expanding into guitars.

Levin guitars were characterized by their quality craftsmanship and use of select materials, contributing to their reputation for producing instruments with good tone and durability. They became popular in Scandinavia and were exported to other parts of Europe and North America.

Throughout the 20th century, Levin produced a wide range of guitar models, including archtops, flat-tops, and classical guitars. Some notable models included the Royal and Goliath series. They also produced guitars under the Goya brand name for the American market.

In the 1970s, Levin was acquired by CF Martin & Company, the renowned American guitar manufacturer. Production of Levin-branded guitars was eventually discontinued, although Martin continued to produce Goya-branded instruments for a time. Despite the cessation of Levin production, vintage Levin guitars remain highly sought after by collectors and musicians for their historical significance and sonic qualities. The Levin factory became a Martin factory.
