Les Otten
Les Otten is an American businessman and politician primarily known for his involvement in the ski resort industry and Republican politics. He is recognized for his efforts in consolidating and expanding several ski resorts in the eastern United States during the 1990s and early 2000s.
Otten's business career largely centered around American Skiing Company (ASC), which he founded and led. Under his leadership, ASC acquired and developed a portfolio of prominent ski resorts, including Sunday River in Maine, Sugarloaf in Maine, Attitash in New Hampshire, and Killington in Vermont. This expansion strategy aimed to create a national brand and offer skiers a multi-resort pass.
The American Skiing Company experienced financial challenges in the late 1990s and early 2000s, eventually leading to bankruptcy. After leaving ASC, Otten remained active in real estate development and other ventures.
Beyond business, Otten has been involved in Republican politics. He ran for the Republican nomination for Governor of Maine in 2010 but was unsuccessful. His political platform focused on economic development and fiscal conservatism. He continues to be involved in Maine politics.
