Lazarus (soundtrack)
The Lazarus soundtrack is the official musical companion to the stage musical Lazarus, conceived and co-created by David Bowie. The musical itself is inspired by Walter Tevis's 1963 novel The Man Who Fell to Earth.
The soundtrack primarily features tracks from Bowie's late-career albums, particularly The Next Day and Blackstar, alongside original compositions written specifically for the musical. Notably, it includes the final recordings made by David Bowie before his death in January 2016, including the title track, "Lazarus," and three previously unreleased songs: "No Plan," "Killing a Little Time," and "When I Met You."
The Lazarus soundtrack exists in various formats, including a standard edition featuring the original Bowie tracks and a deluxe edition containing the cast recordings from the musical. The cast recordings feature performances by the actors who starred in the New York Theatre Workshop and London productions, singing Bowie's songs in the context of the musical's narrative.
The release of the Lazarus soundtrack served as both a tribute to Bowie's artistry and a complement to the theatrical production, allowing audiences to experience the music outside of the live performance setting. It provides a curated collection of Bowie's work that underscores the themes and emotional resonance of the Lazarus story.
