Lawson Field (aviator)

Lawson Field (1893-1918) was an American aviator and a flying ace of World War I. He was born in Columbus, Georgia. Field served in the United States Army Air Service and was credited with six aerial victories. He received the Distinguished Service Cross for his bravery and skill in combat. He was killed in action near Thiaucourt, France, in September 1918 while strafing enemy troops. Lawson Field in Columbus, Georgia (now a municipal airport), was named in his honor shortly after his death. He is buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
