Kyle Lake
Kyle Lake (1972-2005) was an American pastor and author. He served as the senior pastor of University Baptist Church in Waco, Texas, from 1999 until his death. Lake was known for his progressive theological views, his charismatic preaching style, and his commitment to social justice. He gained national attention for his writings and sermons on topics such as doubt, faith, and the integration of spirituality and everyday life.
Lake graduated from Baylor University and earned a Master of Divinity degree from Truett Theological Seminary. During his time at University Baptist Church, he led the congregation through significant growth and diversification.
Tragically, Kyle Lake died on October 30, 2005, while performing baptisms in the Bosque River. He was electrocuted by faulty electrical equipment that had come into contact with the water. His death was a shock to the Waco community and the wider religious world. He left behind his wife, Jennifer, and three children.
Lake's legacy continues through his published works, including the book Understanding Angry People. He is remembered as a compassionate and thoughtful leader who challenged conventional religious norms and inspired many to explore their faith in new ways.
