NHL 14 features improved physics and fighting mechanics compared to previous installments. The game incorporates the Enforcer Engine from the Fight Night series, revamping the fighting system with more realistic confrontations. The skating engine was also updated, utilizing the True Performance Skating engine previously featured in NHL 11. Furthermore, the game introduced the NHL 94 Anniversary Mode, a classic control scheme inspired by NHL '94.
