Khovd (city)

Khovd is the capital of Khovd Province (aimag) in western Mongolia. It is located on the Buyant River at the foot of the Mongol Altai Mountains.

Geography and Climate

The city sits at an altitude of approximately 1,400 meters (4,600 feet). The climate is characterized as a cold semi-arid climate (BSk) with significant temperature variations between summer and winter. Winters are long and very cold, while summers are short and moderately warm. Precipitation is relatively low throughout the year.

History
