Workers' Party (Tunisia)

The Workers' Party (Tunisia) (Arabic: حزب العمال الشيوعي التونسي, romanized: Ḥizb al-'Ummāl ash-Shuyū'ī at-Tūnisī; French: Parti des travailleurs tunisien), formerly known as the Tunisian Workers' Communist Party (POCT), is a communist party in Tunisia.

Founded in 1986, it operated underground during the rule of Zine El Abidine Ben Ali. The party was legalized after the Tunisian Revolution of 2011. Hamma Hammami has been its First Secretary since its inception.

The Workers' Party advocates for a socialist society and the rights of workers and the poor. It is a Marxist-Leninist party and emphasizes class struggle and anti-imperialism. The party has participated in elections since 2011 and has generally secured a small number of seats in the Assembly of the Representatives of the People.

The party has been involved in various social movements and protests in Tunisia, particularly those related to workers' rights and economic inequality. It is a staunch critic of neoliberal economic policies and advocates for greater state intervention in the economy.

The Workers' Party has experienced internal divisions and splits over the years, but it remains a significant force on the Tunisian left.
