Khin Kyi

Khin Kyi (1912 – 1988) was a prominent Burmese politician and diplomat, and the wife of General Aung San, considered the father of modern Burma (Myanmar). She is revered in Myanmar as "Mother Khin Kyi".

Early Life and Education:

Born in Myaungmya, British Burma, Khin Kyi trained as a nurse.

Marriage and Family:

She married Aung San in 1942. Together they had four children: Aung San Oo, Aung San Lin (who died as a child), Aung San Suu Kyi, and Aung San Myint.

Political Life and Diplomatic Career:

Following Aung San's assassination in 1947, Khin Kyi dedicated herself to public service. She served as a Member of Parliament and held the position of Minister for Social Welfare. She also became Burma's ambassador to India, a role she held until 1960.

Legacy:

Khin Kyi is remembered for her contributions to Burmese independence and her later work in social welfare. Her image remains a symbol of national unity and maternal strength in Myanmar.
