Abellu

Abellu, also sometimes spelled "Abellio," is a Gaulish (ancient Celtic) deity. He is principally associated with apple trees and is believed to have been a local or regional god. Evidence for his worship is primarily found in the Comminges region of the Pyrenees mountains in southern France.

Archaeological finds related to Abellu include inscriptions and dedications on altar stones. These inscriptions often connect him to Roman deities, typically Apollo, reflecting the syncretic religious practices that occurred during the Roman period in Gaul. The association with Apollo suggests that Abellu may have also been connected with healing, light, or the sun, aligning with some of the roles attributed to Apollo in Roman mythology.

The scarcity of information about Abellu leaves much room for interpretation and scholarly debate. The apple tree association likely implies a connection to fertility, abundance, and potentially the Otherworld, given the symbolic significance of apples in Celtic mythology and folklore.
