Ken Cameron (trade unionist)

Ken Cameron (born 1941, died 29 March 2005) was a prominent British trade unionist. He served as the General Secretary of the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) from 1985 to 2002.

Cameron was known for his militant leadership of the FBU and his strong advocacy for firefighters' rights and safety. He played a key role in numerous national disputes, including the 2002-2003 firefighters' dispute over pay, which saw the FBU take national strike action.

Before becoming General Secretary, Cameron was a firefighter himself, serving in London for many years. His firsthand experience gave him credibility and a deep understanding of the issues faced by his members.

Cameron was a committed socialist and a vocal critic of privatization and cuts to public services. He maintained strong links with other trade unions and progressive organizations. Following his retirement from the FBU, he remained active in campaigning on issues related to workers' rights and social justice.

His death in 2005 was widely mourned by the trade union movement in Britain. He is remembered as a dedicated and effective leader who fought tirelessly for his members and for a fairer society.
