Karambit

The karambit is a small Southeast Asian curved knife resembling a claw. It is primarily used as a close-quarters combat weapon and utility tool. Characterized by a curved blade and typically featuring one or two finger holes, the karambit allows for a secure grip and enhanced maneuverability.

Originating in West Sumatra, Indonesia, the karambit was originally an agricultural tool used for reaping rice roots. Over time, it evolved into a weapon, incorporating techniques from the Southeast Asian martial art of Silat.

Modern karambits are popular for self-defense, martial arts training, and as collectors' items. The finger hole(s) facilitate quick deployment and retention, making it difficult for an opponent to disarm the wielder. Different grip styles exist, often revolving around the way the karambit is held and used in relation to the index or little finger being inserted into the hole. Variations in blade shape, size, and material also exist, catering to different applications and preferences. The sharpness of the blade and techniques used require caution and training.
