Just for the Record (Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased))
Just for the Record is the fourth episode of the first series of the British television series Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased), originally broadcast on October 12, 1969. The episode was written by Donald James and directed by Ray Austin.
The plot revolves around Marty Hopkirk (Kenneth Cope), the ghost of a private detective, trying to prove the innocence of his partner, Jeff Randall (Mike Pratt), who is framed for the murder of a pop singer named Georgie Price (David Jason). Randall is accused of killing Price to silence him after Randall supposedly extorted him. Jeannie Hopkirk (Annette Andre), Marty's widow, aids in the investigation, although she cannot see or hear Marty. Marty, with his ghostly abilities, attempts to uncover the real killer and the evidence planted against Randall. He faces challenges as he can only partially interact with the physical world, and his attempts to help are often misinterpreted or dismissed. The episode showcases the series' blend of detective work, humour, and supernatural elements as Marty strives to clear Randall's name and expose the actual murderer before Randall is wrongly convicted. The title refers to evidence needed to clear Randall's record.
