Poliçan

Poliçan is a town located in Elbasan County, Albania. Situated in central Albania, it lies within the Skrapar region, historically known for its strong resistance movements. It was founded in 1960 as an industrial center, primarily focused on the production of weaponry and ammunition during the communist era.

The town's economy was heavily dependent on the defense industry, a sector that faced significant decline after the fall of communism in the early 1990s. This led to widespread unemployment and emigration from Poliçan.

Today, Poliçan is a municipality undergoing a period of economic and social transition. Efforts are being made to diversify its economy and attract investment, focusing on areas such as agriculture, tourism, and small-scale manufacturing. The local government is actively working to revitalize the town and improve the quality of life for its residents.
