Jun Märkl
Jun Märkl (born 1969) is a German conductor. He is known for his interpretations of German Romantic repertoire, particularly the works of Richard Strauss, as well as French Impressionist composers.
Märkl studied piano and conducting at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hannover and later studied with Sergiu Celibidache and Gustav Meier. He has held several prominent conducting positions throughout his career, including Music Director of the Orchestre National de Lyon (2005-2011) and Principal Conductor of the MDR Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra (2012-2020). He has also served as Artistic Director of the Basque National Orchestra.
Märkl has guest conducted with leading orchestras around the world, including the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Cleveland Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. He has an extensive discography on labels such as Naxos, RCA Red Seal, and Harmonia Mundi, featuring works by Debussy, Ravel, Messiaen, and Schumann, among others. He is recognized for his attention to detail and his ability to bring out the nuances of orchestral color.
