Hanumana

Hanumana (also known as Hanuman) is a prominent Hindu deity, revered as a devoted servant of Lord Rama and a central character in the Hindu epic, the Ramayana. He is widely venerated for his strength, courage, wisdom, celibacy, devotion, and selflessness.

Hanumana is considered an embodiment of strength (physical and spiritual), and devotion. He is depicted as a monkey-faced humanoid, often with a long tail. He is considered an exemplar of bhakti (devotion) and unwavering loyalty.

According to the Ramayana, Hanumana played a crucial role in assisting Rama in rescuing his wife, Sita, from the demon king Ravana. His exploits include crossing the ocean to Lanka, delivering Rama's ring to Sita, setting Lanka ablaze, and carrying the Dronagiri mountain containing the life-saving herb Sanjeevani to heal Lakshmana.

Hanumana is often worshipped as a protector and granter of boons. Temples dedicated to Hanumana are found throughout India and the world. He is particularly popular among wrestlers and athletes, who admire his strength and discipline. He is also considered an auspicious deity and is often invoked for courage, wisdom, and protection from evil. Tuesdays and Saturdays are considered especially auspicious for worshipping Hanumana. He is often referred to by various epithets, including Anjaneya (son of Anjana), Maruti (son of Marut), and Pavanputra (son of the wind god).
