Jumla (town)
Jumla is a town and headquarters of the Jumla District in Karnali Province of Nepal. It is located in the Jumla Valley, a relatively fertile agricultural area in the high mountains of northwestern Nepal. The town serves as an important administrative and commercial hub for the surrounding region.
The economy of Jumla is primarily based on agriculture, with rice, potatoes, and beans being major crops. Apple cultivation is also a significant agricultural activity. Trade with other parts of Nepal, including the transportation of agricultural products, contributes to the local economy.
Jumla is accessible by air via Jumla Airport, which connects the town to other cities in Nepal, particularly Nepalgunj. Road access is also improving, though travel can be challenging due to the mountainous terrain.
Culturally, Jumla is part of the larger Karnali region, which has a distinct identity and traditions. The population is diverse, consisting of various ethnic groups. Nepali is the primary language.
Jumla experiences a temperate climate with warm summers and cold winters. Snowfall is common in the winter months.
The town has seen development in recent years with the expansion of infrastructure, education, and healthcare facilities, though challenges related to remoteness and limited resources remain.
