Johnny Briggs (actor)
Johnny Briggs (1935-2021) was a British actor, best known for his long-running role as Mike Baldwin in the ITV soap opera Coronation Street.
Briggs was born in London and began his acting career as a child. He appeared in various films and television shows before joining Coronation Street in 1976. He played the role of Mike Baldwin, a charismatic and often unscrupulous factory owner, for 30 years, becoming one of the show's most iconic and popular characters.
His portrayal of Baldwin was notable for its complex mix of charm and ruthlessness, and he was involved in many of the soap's most memorable storylines, including numerous affairs and business rivalries.
Briggs left Coronation Street in 2006. After leaving the soap, he continued to work in television and theatre. He was awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) in 2007 for his services to drama. Johnny Briggs died in 2021 at the age of 85.
