John Ryan (printer)

John Ryan was an Irish printer and publisher, active primarily in Dublin during the mid-20th century. He is best known for his literary journal Envoy, which he published from 1949 to 1951. Envoy served as an important platform for both established and emerging Irish writers, featuring work by Patrick Kavanagh, Brendan Behan, Samuel Beckett, and others. Ryan also operated a bookshop and gallery, where he fostered a bohemian atmosphere and provided a meeting place for artists and writers.
