John Hooker (novelist)

John Hooker (1920-1992) was an American novelist, screenwriter, and television writer. He is primarily known for his crime novels, often featuring tough, realistic characters and settings.

Hooker was born in New York City and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the war, he began his writing career, initially focusing on short stories and television scripts. He wrote for numerous television shows, including "Dragnet" and "The Alfred Hitchcock Hour."

He is best remembered for his novels, which include The Blind Leading (1961), Nothing But the Truth (1962), The Circle of Fire (1966), Death Rides a Camel (1968), and Jake Cutter (1972).
