Chinaglia
Giorgio Chinaglia (1947-2012) was an Italian football (soccer) player who primarily played as a centre-forward. He is considered one of the most iconic and controversial figures in Italian football history.
Career:
Chinaglia began his professional career in Italy before moving to Swansea Town in Wales for a short period. He rose to prominence playing for S.S. Lazio in Serie A, where he was a prolific goalscorer and a key figure in the team's 1974 Scudetto (Italian league title) victory. His time at Lazio was marked by both success and turbulent relationships with teammates and management.
In 1976, Chinaglia moved to the United States to play for the New York Cosmos in the North American Soccer League (NASL). He became a star in the NASL, playing alongside legends like Pelé and Franz Beckenbauer, and helped popularize soccer in the United States. He was a leading scorer in the NASL and won several championships with the Cosmos.
He briefly returned to Italy, playing for Lazio again before retiring.
