John Danby (musician)
John Danby (1757 – 18 April 1798) was an English composer, best known for his glees. Born in London, he was a chorister at St Paul's Cathedral. In 1784, he was appointed organist of the Roman Catholic chapel in Spanish Place, London. He won several prizes from the Catch Club for his glees, including first prizes in 1785, 1787, 1790, 1791, 1794, and 1795. His most famous glee is arguably "Up, ye Shepherds." Danby published several collections of his glees and canzonets. He died in London.
