John Charles Groome (secretary of state)
John Charles Groome (1800-1866) was an American politician who served as the Secretary of State of Maryland from 1838 to 1841. A member of the Democratic Party, he was appointed to the position during the governorship of William Grason. Records indicate he was also a lawyer and a planter. His tenure as Secretary of State involved the usual duties associated with the office at that time, including the management of state records, correspondence, and the issuance of official documents. Biographical details about his early life and legal career remain relatively limited in readily accessible historical records.
