John Barnes (Australian cricketer)

John Barnes (born 21 November 1914, died 16 July 2000) was an Australian cricketer who played first-class cricket for New South Wales and Tasmania. He was a right-handed batsman and occasional right-arm medium-pace bowler.

Barnes played 36 first-class matches between 1936/37 and 1947/48. The bulk of his career was with New South Wales, where he played from 1936/37 to 1941/42. After World War II, he represented Tasmania in the 1947/48 season. He scored 1,363 runs at an average of 23.50, with a highest score of 123. He also took 7 wickets at an average of 40.71.

His highest score of 123 was made for New South Wales against Queensland in the 1938/39 season.

Barnes' career was interrupted by World War II. After the war, he moved to Tasmania, where he played his final season of first-class cricket.
