John Addey (astrologer)

John Addey (1920-1992) was a British astrologer best known for his development and popularization of Harmonic Astrology and his contributions to statistical research in astrology. He was a key figure in the revival of interest in astrology in the latter half of the 20th century.

Addey’s primary contribution lies in his systematization of harmonics, a method of dividing the zodiac circle by integers and interpreting the resulting charts. He believed that harmonic charts revealed specific areas of life focus, such as relationships (7th harmonic) or career (10th harmonic). His work significantly expanded the tools available to astrologers for chart interpretation.

Addey founded the Astrological Research Association (ARA) in 1958, dedicated to promoting scientific research in astrology. He encouraged a data-driven approach and advocated for the statistical validation of astrological principles. The ARA conducted numerous studies exploring correlations between planetary positions and life events.

His published works include Harmonics in Astrology (1964) and Synastry (1982), which remain influential texts for astrologers interested in harmonic techniques and relationship analysis. His research, while debated within the broader scientific community, helped to formalize and advance the practice of astrology.
