Jim Carr

Jim Carr (born c. 1959, died January 22, 2024) was a Canadian politician who served as the Member of Parliament for Winnipeg South Centre from 2015 until his death. He represented the Liberal Party of Canada.

Prior to his federal political career, Carr served in the Manitoba Legislative Assembly, representing the riding of Fort Rouge. He was a member of the New Democratic Party (NDP) and served as the leader of the Manitoba NDP from 1988 to 1992. He held various cabinet portfolios in the Manitoba government, including Minister of Energy and Mines, and Minister of Health.

After leaving provincial politics, Carr held leadership positions in the Winnipeg business community. He served as the founding CEO of the Business Council of Manitoba and was president and CEO of the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce.

In federal politics, Carr served as Minister of Natural Resources from 2015 to 2019 and as Minister of International Trade Diversification from 2019 to 2021. In 2021, he was appointed as the Prime Minister's Special Representative for the Prairies.

Carr was known for his collaborative approach and focus on economic development, particularly in the Prairies. He played a role in advocating for Canadian trade interests and promoting natural resource development. He was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2019 and continued to serve in Parliament while undergoing treatment.
