History:

The channel was licensed by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) in 2000 as Discovery Civilization Channel. It was originally intended to broadcast programming focusing on history, archaeology, and world cultures, primarily sourced from Discovery Communications' library. The channel launched on August 15, 2001.

In 2010, Bell Media (then CTVglobemedia) announced that Discovery Civilization Channel would be rebranded as Investigation Discovery. The rebrand took effect on August 30, 2010, shifting its programming focus to crime and investigation.

Some programming is acquired from the U.S. version of Investigation Discovery, while other content is produced specifically for the Canadian market or sourced from other international distributors.

Investigation Discovery (Canada) is available on most major cable and satellite providers across Canada. It is typically included as part of digital basic or discretionary television packages.
