TV10 (Dutch TV channel)

TV10 was a Dutch commercial television channel that broadcast between 1989 and 1993. It was one of the first privately owned television stations in the Netherlands, launching shortly after RTL-Véronique (later RTL 4).

TV10 was founded by Joop van den Ende and John de Mol, two prominent figures in the Dutch entertainment industry. The channel aimed to provide a mix of entertainment programming, including films, series, and reality shows. However, the channel faced significant challenges, including financial difficulties and legal battles over broadcasting rights.

One of the primary reasons for TV10's struggles was its inability to secure a terrestrial broadcasting license. This forced the channel to rely on cable distribution, limiting its reach compared to RTL 4, which broadcast over the air. This limited viewership impacted advertising revenue.

Despite its relatively short lifespan, TV10 is remembered as a pioneering channel in the Dutch commercial television landscape. It paved the way for future commercial broadcasters and contributed to the diversification of television programming in the Netherlands. Ultimately, financial problems led to the channel's demise in 1993, and it was acquired by concurrent channel RTL 5, folding into that brand.
