Jeff Hewitt (politician)

Jeff Hewitt (born February 6, 1953) is an American politician and businessman. He is best known for his service as a member of the Riverside County Board of Supervisors in California from 2018 to 2022. A member of the Libertarian Party, Hewitt was the first Libertarian elected to a county-level office in California.

Hewitt previously served as the Mayor of Calimesa, California for ten years, from 2008 to 2018, and as a city council member for several years prior. During his time as mayor, he focused on fiscal responsibility, infrastructure improvements, and promoting economic development.

In 2018, Hewitt successfully ran for the 5th District seat on the Riverside County Board of Supervisors, defeating incumbent Republican Marion Ashley. As a supervisor, he advocated for reduced regulation, lower taxes, and increased local control. He also supported policies aimed at addressing homelessness and improving public safety.

In 2021, Hewitt launched a campaign to recall California Governor Gavin Newsom. While he ultimately did not secure enough signatures to qualify a recall election, he gained attention for his efforts and criticism of Newsom's policies.

Hewitt's political positions are generally aligned with the Libertarian Party platform, emphasizing individual liberty, limited government, and free markets. Prior to his entry into politics, Hewitt was a successful small business owner. He continues to be involved in entrepreneurial ventures.
