Jay Leach (hockey coach)

Jay Leach is an American professional ice hockey coach and former player. He is currently an assistant coach for the Seattle Kraken of the National Hockey League (NHL).

Playing Career

Leach played defense professionally for over a decade after a collegiate career at Providence College. He was drafted by the Phoenix Coyotes in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. While he spent the majority of his playing career in the American Hockey League (AHL), he also played in the NHL with the Boston Bruins, New Jersey Devils, Montreal Canadiens, San Jose Sharks, and Tampa Bay Lightning.

Coaching Career

Leach began his coaching career as an assistant coach with the Albany Devils of the AHL in 2015. He later served as head coach of the Providence Bruins, the AHL affiliate of the Boston Bruins, from 2017 to 2021. During his tenure with Providence, he led the team to consistent success and player development. In 2021, he was hired as an assistant coach by the Seattle Kraken under head coach Dave Hakstol. He is known for his communication skills, player development focus, and defensive acumen.
