Jane Roberts (author)

Jane Roberts (May 8, 1929 – September 5, 1984) was an American author, poet, psychic, and spirit medium. She is best known for her work with Seth, an energy personality essence no longer focused on physical matter, who purportedly dictated a series of books through Roberts while she was in a trance state. These books, collectively known as the Seth Material, explore a wide range of metaphysical topics including the nature of reality, consciousness, the self, reincarnation, and the power of belief.

Roberts began her career as a fiction writer and poet, publishing several works before her experiences with the Ouija board in the early 1960s led her to begin channeling Seth. From 1963 until her death, she devoted much of her life to documenting and disseminating the Seth Material through books, personal sessions, and workshops.

The Seth Material gained a substantial following during the New Age movement of the 1970s and continues to be read and discussed by those interested in alternative spiritual and philosophical perspectives. Notable Seth books include Seth Speaks: The Eternal Validity of the Soul, The Nature of Personal Reality, and The Unknown Reality. Roberts also wrote several books exploring her own experiences with channeling and the development of her psychic abilities.
