James Harding (journalist)
James Harding is a British journalist who has held prominent positions in the media industry.
Harding served as Director of News and Current Affairs at the BBC from 2013 to 2018. In this role, he was responsible for all of the BBC's news output across television, radio, and online platforms, including overseeing the BBC News channel, BBC World Service, and the BBC website.
Prior to joining the BBC, Harding was the editor of The Times newspaper from 2007 to 2012. He was appointed to the role at the age of 38, making him one of the youngest editors in the paper's history. During his tenure, The Times transitioned to a paid digital subscription model.
Before becoming editor of The Times, Harding worked at the Financial Times for over a decade. He held various positions including Washington bureau chief and media editor.
He is a founder and editor of Tortoise Media, a slow news platform launched in 2019 that focuses on in-depth investigations and considered analysis.
