TT9 (tomb)
TT9, also known as Theban Tomb 9, is an ancient Egyptian tomb located in Dra' Abu el-Naga', part of the Theban Necropolis, situated on the west bank of the Nile River opposite Luxor. It is the burial place of Amenmose, who held the title of Chief Stoker of Amun during the reign of Amenhotep II (Dynasty XVIII).
The tomb is relatively small compared to some other Theban tombs, but it is decorated with painted scenes typical of the period. These scenes provide insights into the beliefs and funerary practices of the ancient Egyptians during the New Kingdom. The decoration includes depictions of Amenmose and his family, religious rituals, and scenes from the Book of the Dead, intended to assist the deceased in their journey to the afterlife.
TT9 has been studied by archaeologists and Egyptologists, contributing to our understanding of the social hierarchy, religious beliefs, and artistic conventions prevalent during the reign of Amenhotep II. The tomb's location in Dra' Abu el-Naga', a less prominent area within the Theban Necropolis compared to the Valley of the Kings or the Valley of the Queens, suggests that Amenmose, while holding a significant position, may not have been part of the highest echelons of the royal court or administration. The preservation and study of TT9 continue to provide valuable information about life and death in ancient Egypt.
