James H. Wise (bishop)
James H. Wise (born February 27, 1945) is a retired bishop of the Episcopal Church. He served as the Bishop of Western Kansas from 1999 to 2010.
Wise received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bethany College in 1967 and a Master of Divinity degree from Seabury-Western Theological Seminary in 1970. He was ordained to the diaconate in 1970 and to the priesthood in 1971.
Prior to his election as bishop, Wise served in several parishes in the Dioceses of Nebraska and West Missouri. He was elected Bishop of Western Kansas in 1999 and consecrated on October 23, 1999.
During his tenure as Bishop of Western Kansas, Wise focused on rural ministry and outreach to Native American communities. He also served on various national committees of the Episcopal Church. He retired in 2010.
