James Fergusson (Royal Navy officer)
James Fergusson (1813 – 1891) was a Royal Navy officer who achieved the rank of vice-admiral.
Fergusson entered the Royal Navy in 1828. He saw service in various parts of the world, including the Mediterranean and South America. His early career involved postings on various ships, progressively rising through the ranks.
He was promoted to lieutenant in 1837 and commander in 1846. He became a captain in 1854 and was given command of HMS Emerald during the Crimean War, participating in operations in the Baltic Sea.
Fergusson was promoted to rear-admiral in 1870, vice-admiral in 1877, and retired from active service shortly thereafter.
Details of his personal life are scarce, but naval records confirm his service dates and promotions within the Royal Navy. He died in 1891.
