Iya (river)

The Iya is a river located in Russia, flowing through the Irkutsk Oblast and Krasnoyarsk Krai regions of Siberia. It is a left tributary of the Angara River. The Iya River is approximately 486 kilometers (302 miles) long, and its drainage basin covers an area of 18,100 square kilometers (7,000 square miles).

The river's source is in the Sayan Mountains. It generally flows northward through a relatively remote and sparsely populated area. The Iya freezes over in late October or early November and remains icebound until late April or early May.

The river's waters are used for various purposes, including fishing, logging, and local water supply. The surrounding region is characterized by taiga forest. The main tributaries of the Iya include the Kirenga and the Ilyaka rivers.
