Itacaré
Itacaré is a municipality located in the southern region of Bahia, Brazil. It is situated on the Cocoa Coast (Costa do Cacau), approximately 70 kilometers north of Ilhéus.
Itacaré is known for its diverse natural landscapes, including Atlantic Rainforest, numerous beaches, rivers, and waterfalls. This combination makes it a popular destination for ecotourism, surfing, and other outdoor activities.
Historically, Itacaré was an important port for the export of cocoa beans. The decline of the cocoa industry in the late 20th century led to a shift towards tourism as the primary economic driver.
The town itself features colonial architecture, reflecting its historical significance. The main street, Rua da Pituba, is a bustling area with restaurants, bars, and shops catering to tourists.
Popular beaches in Itacaré include Praia da Tiririca (renowned for surfing), Praia da Costa (easily accessible from town), Praia da Ribeira (a picturesque cove), and Praia do Havaizinho (featuring a cluster of smaller beaches). Many of the beaches are accessible by short hikes through the rainforest.
Itacaré's climate is tropical, with warm temperatures and high humidity throughout the year. The best time to visit is generally during the drier months, from April to September.
