Iotapa (spouse of Antiochus III)

Iotapa was a princess of the Kingdom of Commagene who lived in the 1st century CE. She was the daughter of King Mithridates III of Commagene and his sister-wife, Iotapa of Commagene. She was named in honor of her mother.

Iotapa married Prince Antiochus III of Commagene, her paternal cousin. Antiochus III was the son of King Antiochus II of Commagene and Queen Iotapa of Cappadocia. They were married prior to 38 CE. Iotapa and Antiochus III ruled Commagene jointly as king and queen under Roman authority.

Iotapa bore Antiochus III two children:

  • Antiochus IV of Commagene
  • Julia Livilla

It is believed that Iotapa died before 52 CE, as Antiochus III is recorded as ruling Commagene alone from that year onward. Her children were raised in Rome.
