Interstate 155 (Missouri–Tennessee)
Interstate 155 (I-155) is a short Interstate Highway connecting Interstate 55 in Missouri with U.S. Route 412 (US 412) in Tennessee. Entirely a four-lane divided highway, I-155 primarily serves as a connector between the two states and facilitates traffic flow to and from Dyersburg, Tennessee. The entire route is approximately 11.3 miles (18.2 km) long.
Route Description
I-155 begins at its western terminus at I-55 near Hayti, Missouri. This interchange allows traffic to continue north or south on I-55. Immediately east of I-55, the route crosses the Mississippi River via the Caruthersville Bridge. Once across the river, I-155 enters Tennessee and quickly reaches its eastern terminus at US 412 near Dyersburg.
History
I-155 was built to improve connectivity between southeastern Missouri and western Tennessee, particularly the city of Dyersburg. The Caruthersville Bridge, carrying I-155 across the Mississippi River, was a significant undertaking in facilitating this connection. Construction of the Interstate and the bridge aimed to improve regional transportation and economic development.
Future
As of now, there are no significant planned extensions or modifications to I-155. It continues to serve its original purpose of connecting I-55 with US 412 and providing access to Dyersburg.
