Insomniac (Green Day album)

Insomniac is the fourth studio album by American rock band Green Day, released on October 10, 1995, by Reprise Records. It served as a follow-up to their breakthrough album, Dookie.

While Dookie propelled Green Day to mainstream success, Insomniac represented a deliberate attempt by the band to explore a darker, more aggressive sound while retaining their signature pop-punk sensibilities. The album's lyrical themes often dealt with alienation, paranoia, and the frustrations of urban life.

Musically, Insomniac features a faster tempo and heavier guitar riffs compared to its predecessor. The production is rawer and less polished, contributing to the album's overall intensity.

Several singles were released from Insomniac, including "Geek Stink Breath," "Brain Stew / Jaded," "Walking Contradiction," and "Stuck with Me." Although the album achieved commercial success, reaching number two on the Billboard 200 chart, it did not match the massive sales of Dookie.

Insomniac is generally considered a more divisive album within Green Day's discography. Some critics and fans appreciate its raw energy and darker themes, while others find it less accessible than Dookie. Nevertheless, it remains a significant release in the band's history, showcasing their willingness to experiment and evolve their sound. The album has been certified 2x Platinum by the RIAA.
