Algiers (band)
Algiers is an American experimental rock band formed in Atlanta, Georgia, in 2007. The band is composed of Franklin James Fisher (vocals, guitar, piano), Ryan Mahan (bass guitar, synth), and Lee Tesche (guitar, synth). Historically, Matt Tong (drums) was a member, departing in 2018. Their sound is often described as a blend of post-punk, gospel, soul, and industrial music, infused with elements of noise rock and electronica. Lyrically, Algiers’ music often explores themes of social justice, oppression, and the Black experience.
The band released their self-titled debut album in 2015 on Matador Records, to critical acclaim. Their subsequent albums include The Underside of Power (2017), also on Matador Records, and There Is No Year (2020) and Shook (2023), both released on Ninja Tune. Algiers has toured extensively internationally, gaining a reputation for their intense and politically charged live performances.
