Hugh Douglas (American football)

Hugh Douglas (born August 21, 1971) is a former American professional football player who was a defensive end in the National Football League (NFL) for ten seasons.

Early Life and College Career:

Douglas was born in Mansfield, Ohio and attended Mansfield Senior High School. He played college football at Central State University, where he was a standout defensive lineman. He was a two-time All-American and helped lead the Marauders to the NAIA Division I Football National Championship in 1990.

NFL Career:

Douglas was drafted by the New York Jets in the first round (16th overall) of the 1995 NFL Draft. He played for the Jets from 1995 to 1997, earning Pro Bowl honors in 1995.

In 1998, he was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles, where he enjoyed his most successful years. Playing under head coach Andy Reid, Douglas became a key part of the Eagles' defense. He was named to the Pro Bowl three times (2000, 2001, 2002) during his tenure with Philadelphia and helped the team reach Super Bowl XXXIX in 2005, which they lost to the New England Patriots.

Douglas was traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2003 but was released after one season. He then returned to the Eagles in 2004, where he finished his NFL career.

Post-Playing Career:

After retiring from the NFL, Douglas worked as a football analyst for various media outlets, including ESPN and 6abc in Philadelphia. He has also been involved in business ventures and community initiatives.
